The dehumanization of the Black body in life and death is as “American as apple pie,” the saying goes.
In life or death the Black body is not human so there will always be justification on why WE and OUR lives are worth less and worthless.
Nothing new here.
White supremacy will always find a way to justify the execution of the Black body. George Floyd’s murder at the hands of a white man police officer is nothing new but standard operating procedure for the United States. The fact that a white man who murdered a Black man in cold blood and the Black man ends up being on trial was nothing new. Even now with Derick Chauvin’s guilty conviction the system that allowed Derick to happen remains.
White supremacy is already rewriting history to frame this entire incident and trial as an outlier rogue cop. The system wants us to believe the lie that most police are good.
We know the truth.
The system of policing is inherently corporate.
Rotten to the core.
It’s not about individual actors.
None of this should be new to any one that has had any formal U.S. education.
Yet here we are in 2021, pretending to be shocked and appalled when most people choose willful ignorance and inaction until they can no longer pretend not to see what has always been right in front of us.
I truly hate to see it and the commentary.
What are you doing to ensure that there is never another George Floyd?
It’s the performance of empathy for me.
