540 Launches New Online College-Style Course

We are so excited to launch a brand new 15-week online course starting February 21, 2023

Our new semester-style online course:

Introduction to Antiracist Practice takes participants on a 15-week journey from the beginnings of ‘race’ as a construct to putting antiracist tools into practice. Taught by 540’s very own Julia Monica, this college–style online course is designed to take your allyship and antiracist practice to the next level!

Who should take Intro to Antiracism Practice:

At 540, we believe in investing in our community with all the educational programming we provide. This course empowers you – an individual, an employer, an organization, a business – to invest in yourselves, your employees, and the communities that you serve and engage with. You can enroll either yourself or someone on your team in this community-oriented adaptation of a class primarily taught in a university setting. By taking this course, you will be directly investing in a world free from racism.

What you will get out of this course:

• A foundational knowledge of how racism is constructed
• An awareness of how racism impacts your own life and others
• The tools to develop language and have discussions around (anti)racism
• Resources and an overview of methods to develop an action-oriented antiracist practice
• Taking a critical approach to your own life through an antiracist lens

About the instructor:

Introduction to Antiracist Practice in its pilot semester will be taught by Julia Monica (DEAI Educator | she/they). Julia brings her own lived experience as a queer, transracial, Afro-latina adoptee living in the diaspora. Her years of higher education training, teaching experience, and community organizing and development in social justice add to her background as the course’s inaugural instructor.

The course will run from Tuesday, February 21, 2023 through May 30, 2023. Course will meet once a week, every Tuesday from 1pm to 4pm EST via Zoom.
