A Wednesday Word From The Director | Where is The Love?

Hello Friends,

Spring has officially sprung and not a moment too soon. This year has thus far been filled with a lot of hate, violence, and vitriolic rhetoric, in the media, online, locally, nationally, and every where in between. I know I am not speaking for just myself when I say that I am elated to finally have more sunshine and warmer temperatures to look forward to. This winter seemed to drag on longer than usual partly due to our dark and loveless society.  Finding the love can be a real challenge. Personally, I am feeling much better than I have in many weeks. A recent fibromyalgia flare compounded by shifting weather patterns, daylight savings and the neglecting of my self-care routine had me feeling very drained and very low. The incident reminded me how important it is to put my physical and mental health needs first especially given the times that we are living in where glimpses of love can seem fleeting.

Big Announcement

If you’ve been following along with 540Blog and our social media this month you’ll know that we have been quietly sharing many glimmers of goodness, love, and good news. A new college intern, new high school volunteers, and college partnerships  are a few of the highlights you may have missed. We have another major announcement coming this Friday (March 22) and another next Friday (March 29). I cannot wait to share.

Photo Releases & Improved Data

We have rolled out a new photo and video release *form for community members that take classes at 540WMain and 540 at The Yards. In addition to this you will see additional columns for address and neighborhood on sign in forms. Sign-in will now be a slightly longer process but collecting this information is in line with my efforts to improve systems and processes. We promise to keep your information confidential and only use it for disseminating important information to you.

*Anyone who does not want their photo taken or used may indicate this on the release.

540 at The Yards

We are fully into our Sunday routine at 540 at The Yards. Have you taken a course yet? We are hoping to continue to build community participation for all abilities yoga, hip hop cardio, and various maker classes at our first satellite location. Do your part by tagging friends and family and as the weather gets warmer, taking a class yourself.
