about the 4-H program

what's different about 4-H @ 540?

4-H @ 540 pays students a stipend to build soft skills that can be applied in the workforce, college, or as a future entrepreneur. The program focuses on the pillars of civic engagement and STEM where students will have the opportunity to engage in activities related to environmental justice and sustainability. This program is accessible to low-income, disabled, and/or marginalized youth.

Q: What will the time commitment be?
A: Sessions are an hour and a half, one day per week from January to June. Students have the opportunity to participate for multiple school years.

 

Q: What will the application process look like? How many students are selected?
A: Students will apply online beginning July 2022 or via mail and then be interviewed. There will be space for 10-12 students.

 

Q: What does “paid” mean?
A: Selected students will receive a stipend each semester they remain in the program.

 

Q: Is transportation provided?
A: The program provides complimentary RTS bus passes for students that have a need for transportation.

 

Q: Where will the program take place?
A: The program will take place at locations around the city.
