Frequently Asked Questions

Are educators paid?

Yes. For most classes educators received $5 commission for every seat sold. In special circumstances this rate can be negotiated.

How do I teach a class?

Community members can submit a course proposal here

Where do I park?

We have our very own parking lot on the side of our building, with a beautiful mural on the wall painted by Wall Therapy & Her Voice Carries.  When you see the mural, you’ll know you’ve arrived at the right place!

There is also ample parking on the side of West Main Street directly in front of our building, as well as on King Street.

Directions to the 540WMain Parking Lot:

Coming from West Main Street, drive down King Street to Yak Alley, make a right on Yak Alley, and then another right turn down Spies Alley.

Drive straight down Spies Alley until the alley way ends, and then turn right into the parking lot. The west portion of the lot faces West Main Street, and you will see the mural as you continue to pull in.

Are all classes free?

No, not all classes are free.  While many of our events are free with a suggested donation, such as our Conversations In A Community Room series, most of our regular classes have a flat course fee in order to pay the community educator as well as to pay for any supplies required to run the class.  Pricing for each individual class can be found on the class’ information page, as well as on the EventBee registration page when you go to register for a class or event.

How is 540WMain funded?

540WMain Community Learning Academy is funded by the support of community members, as well as corporate sponsorships. Proceeds from our community classes and events also go to support our community programming.  We accept donations of school and building supplies in person, and we accept monetary donations to pay our sign language interpreters and student interns through our Online Donation Page.  Community members interested in supporting 540WMain can sign up for our 540WMain Monthly Membership Program, in which members receive special V.I.P. perks for classes and events.

Are teen interns paid?

What is the inclement weather policy?

If inclement weather occurs, students will be notified via e-mail of the class/event cancellation, and refunds will be issued for any tickets purchased.  Please allow up to 2-3 weeks for refunds to be processed and reflected in your bank statement.
