540WMain Learning Academy is proud to be a part of Ray Ray Mitrano's Our Land Roc's Earth Day Celebration! Join us for an epic Earth Day celebration at Parcel 5! There will be music, games, food, and fun for the whole family. This year's Earth Day celebration will focus on the responsible and sustainable use of the land we live on. Seating options at Parcel 5 are limited, so feel free to bring a lawn chair, or get yourself a piece of sod to sit on. Our goal is to cover enough of the gravel with sod to make it picnic friendly, a soft place to play and fall, and to beautify the space... for everyone. Our Intro to Gentrification workshop is this Saturday, April 21 from 1PM - 3PM. Join us for a candid discussion on gentrification, what it means, what is has done to past Rochester, implications for future Rochester, and personal actions you can take to improve housing access for all Rochesterians. This is an introductory course to the concept and effects of gentrification and intersecting concepts like race, community development, redlining, and other principles. Open to the community. Dear Community, Join me in welcoming Jake Sell Hicks as 540WMain Community Learning Academy‘s inaugural Community Organizer. Jake recently joined 540WMain as a featured blogger and in a very short time we both agreed that his level of expertise and education made him the perfect candidate for an expanded role with the organization. In this new role, Jake will serve as 540’s ambassador at community events, aid in development, execution, and continuation of new programs at 540WMain.
