I hope you are enjoying your day off! While you think about this nation’s independence keep in mind that the United States was founded on the enslavement and marginalization of black and indigenous people. Not everyone enjoyed the same freedoms then and not everyone has the same opportunities now. Remember your privileges and freedoms on your day off.
So now that I’ve gotten that out of the way
Summer is finally here! Thank god. After a seemingly endless winter season the sky is clear, blue, and sunny and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’m busy this week catching up on emails, preparing for our summer Workforce Development Program, grant writing and more.
Let me fill you in on what you can expect from 540WMain during the summer of 2018 with a brief overview:
Classes on hiatus
Workforce Development Program Begins
The 2019 Workforce Development, College Preparatory, & Entrepreneur Program (WDCP) begins on Monday July 8th. This summer we are working with (9) teens from the Rochester City School District. The program combines elements of college level first year experience with personal brand development training, community service, and career skills training for students aged 16-19.
540Cowork begins Thursday July 11th | 540Coworks’ mission is to de-gentrify coworking spaces
- Support a nonprofit located a low income neighborhood
- Host and complimentary breakfast and snacks
- Coffee all day’
- Free wifi, free printing, copying and faxing, off street parking
- Free ($10 suggested donation)
- Tech focused lunch and learns on select weeks
- All this plus unlimited classes for just $25/month
We are pleased to share that we have hired Linell Brooks Jr. as our first Workforce Development (Summer) Coordinator. Linell will run the summer program and supervise the summer interns. We will be sharing more about Linell soon.
