Why did you decide to volunteer/work at 540WMain Communiversity?
AK: I’ve been wanting to be involved in a community in Rochester where I could be of service that would move us forward and benefit people in the city but I didn’t know any organization where I could fit in and be stretched in many aspects of life with until I came to 540WMain. I love learning, teaching and growing so I feel that this is the place for me.
Where did you grow up?
AK: I grew up in two places: Seoul, South Korea from birth to age 8 and then Orange County, California until age 18.
When you’re not volunteering/working at 540WMain what do you like to do?
AK: I like hosting and going to board game nights, meeting new people while playing board games. Sometimes, I do paper crafts like origami flowers and go hiking with a dog in the sun or snow. Most importantly, I love hanging out with my friends even though they don’t like board games. I like babysitting adorable babies for my friends.
How do you stay healthy?
AK: I don’t do it well at 100% but I try to stay away from sugar and carbohydrates as much as possible. I don’t choose vegetables when I shop but when a veggie dish is presented in front of me, I eat them. To stay active, I do yoga and hiking at least once a week.
What is your favorite healthy food to eat?
AK: My friend makes an amazing dish of pomegranate avocado quinoa salad. Very healthy, indeed.
How do you express creativity in your life?
AK: I come up with ridiculous solutions to mundane problems just to get a chuckle and I make puns whenever I can.
What is it that inspires you to work with 540WMain?
AK: I like having open minded discussion among the peers so when I attended some book discussions by 540WMain, I am more aware and more connected to people.
What are you working on now?
AK: Right now, I am working on re-learning the art of photography after I recently bought a new DSLR in years and a discipline to keep drawing art.
What do you like best about living in Rochester?
AK: Mostly, my friends. Rochester has a great variety of nature parks to hike in on difficulty levels.
What do you like least about living in Rochester?
AK: The everyday alternative street parking.
Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know?
AK: According to my closest friends, they say I thrive on intellectual or philosophical conversations. The majority of the conversations is me asking questions because I’m a curious person. So feel free to educate me.
