We are pleased to spotlight Taurus Savant one of our Performing Artists during the month of December

About Taurus Savant

Taurus Savant is an artist and community advocate living in Rochester, NY, by way of Far Rockaway, Queens, NY. He enjoys using his unique style of creativity and quirky personality to connect with and impact others. OFF MY CHEST is Taurus Savant’s latest project – a full-length album that was written, produced and recorded all by himself, released on October 13, 2017.

When did you begin your career as an artist?

TS: My career specifically as a music artist began about four years ago when I started sharing my old and new compositions with the public. My career as a vocalist began quite recently – I would record myself singing and listen to them privately. Three years ago I started going to open mics and performing and people really enjoyed it, so I kept it going. I’ve been doing music as a craft for nearly twelve years now.

Where do you get the inspiration for your work?

TS: Everyday life. Thoughts. I write and compose my feelings, and usually if a melody stays in my head all day, I will make something from it. It can be certain noises, or phrases I hear, or even through dreams that will inspire me to want to make music… that’s the magic, that inspiration can come from literally anywhere.

What makes you want to be an artist?

TS: I just love to create! Just putting together something that started as a thought in my subconscious is a magical process and I very much enjoy doing it. I love sharing musical ideas with others and the combinations that result from them are awesome as well. The freedom to do whatever you want is something that pleases me greatly and I want it to show through my craft.

For you how does your art relate to wellness?

TS: It’s a rigorous exercise for my brain, since as a creative, my mind just never stops running! Making art is a way to release that energy, declutter my brain, and do something productive with it. It’s therapeutic, almost… otherwise I’m sure I’d go a little crazy!

How do you stay healthy as a creative?

TS: I rest often. Take breaks if necessary. Sometimes inspiration can hit, or leave you frustrated and awake all hours of the night, but it’s worthwhile to me. It’s still important to let my thoughts gather and settle and release them when it’s time. Plus, I drink lots of water!

What do you feel is the most challenging aspect of your career?

TS: The biggest challenge is myself. Continuing to believe in my craft and the impact it can make, even in times where I feel unsupported or unworthy. My art is there to remind me that I can create beautiful things, and I believe we all have the capability to do that, and hopefully I help inspire people to do the same.

When you aren’t writing music what are you doing?

TS: I like to read! I love reading books, or doing research on interesting topics. I also enjoy walking around the city, looking for new places to check out. Otherwise I’m constantly working, but I enjoy relaxing when I get the time.

What is it that inspires you to keep going as an entrepreneur?

TS: Besides the love and excitement I get from creating things and sharing them with others, just knowing that something I did impacted or influenced someone in a positive way. Art heals people, and I’ve been healed by art, so I always aim to do it for others in return.

What are you working on now?

TS: Right now I’m taking a little break to focus on replenishing myself. After releasing an album, it’s always good to allow it to let it reach as many people as possible, and it gives me time to recharge while I make plans for my next endeavor.

What  has been your best experience so far as an artist?

TS: Being recognized by my peers, both near and far, and even some big names as well! Having folks reach out to me to say that they enjoy anything I’ve made is a humbling feeling and I enjoy the way it makes others feel.

What has been your biggest challenge as a company?
TS: Sometimes life can throw a lot at you and it can be difficult to find time to do what you love. Balancing a busy schedule, having adequate time to create and get a good night’s rest is hard to do when there’s a lot riding on you to succeed.

Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

TS: I take life one day at a time and I’ve learned that you can’t rush things – the best kind of art is the kind that is patient! Don’t stress yourself out over trying to do all the things in one day.

What advice do you have for others interested in pursuing a career in art/music?

TS: Know who you are and be confident – your love for the craft and inner strength to keep going even when times are difficult will ensure that you’ll have an even greater of accomplishment once you do overcome whatever obstacle stands before you. Believing in yourself, accepting yourself and keep in mind that we’re ever-changing! That’s what helps you connect with others.

Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know?

TS: More than anything, I give my gratitude to everyone who has supported me and will continue to ride with me on this journey. I’m inspired by all the amazing things my peers accomplish and any sort of accolades I receive I never take for granted! If I’ve ever impacted you in any way, I feel as if I’m achieving my purpose in this world. This isn’t the easiest thing in the world to do, but I love my craft far too much to ever stop doing it! Thank you!
